Cosmetic dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain that we bond to the face of teeth. They’re ideal for people who don’t like the look of their teeth or want to make their smile brighter, whiter and straighter.
If you’re getting porcelain veneers, you’ll come in for us to take some impressions or scans of your bite. We’ll use these moulds to create a wax-up of what your proposed smile will look like. You’ll get to preview the mock-up to see if you like our suggestions or want to make additional changes.
When you’re ready to move to the next phase of treatment, we’ll schedule you for a preparation appointment. At this visit, we slightly reduce a fraction of a millimetre from the face of your involved teeth. This step prevents the veneer from looking too bulky once it’s cemented in place. We’ll take another impression for your permanent veneers to be made in a lab, then place temporary plastic veneers over your teeth to prevent any discomfort.
Your permanent veneers can be adjusted here in our on-site lab, providing optimal aesthetic results. Our lab technician can even match the veneers or adjust them during your appointment to add a polished finishing touch.

It’s important to look after your veneers as if they were normal teeth. Brush and floss them daily. With proper care, you can expect them to last up to 15-20 years. Porcelain is quite durable, but it does help to protect your restorations from unwanted chipping or wear. We recommend sleeping with a splint/night guard if there is evidence that you clench and grind your teeth.
As veneers are bonded across your front teeth, they immediately mask the appearance of aesthetic irregularities like:
We recommend whitening your teeth prior to getting veneers so that your restorations can be matched to the adjacent teeth. Whitening provides a less invasive approach to your care, keeping your procedures as conservative as possible. Plus, whitening is easy to maintain!
Since veneers are strictly aesthetic in nature, you won’t want to place them on teeth with active cavities or gum disease. Veneers only cover the face of your tooth, whereas crowns slide over the entire structure. If you have significant structural damage or the tooth is at risk of breaking, a dental crown may be more appropriate.
